Update: Au Bon Pain gets hospitalized

GLENS FALLS -- Au Bon Pain is returning to the greater Capital Region, but you'll have to go to a hospital to patronize it.
The bakery cafe chain is taking over first-floor space at the Glens Falls Hospital that has been occupied by The Bistro. Renovations are scheduled to begin this week, with a target of opening in mid-September.
Hospitals are a significant niche for the Boston company, with about 70 such venues among its 220 locations.
This cafe will be open to the public, offering baked items, sandwiches, soups, salads and beverages. The bakery portion also will provide some items for in-patient meals.
Au Bon Pain once did a brisk business at the Crossgates Mall in Guilderland, but has been out of the market for a number of years. Most of its New York State locations are in New York City and on Long Island, although it has several Upstate, including at Hancock International Airport in North Syracuse, the University of Rochester Medical Center, and Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Westchester County.
