| Suvir Saran |
Suvir Saran, a native of India who first gained U.S. fame as executive chef at Dévi in New York City and then even broader notice with his cookbooks and teaching activities, will be the major culinary draw at the September 7-9 weekend event.
Dévi was the first Indian restaurant in the U.S. to earn a Michelin star. Saran is working to open his next restaurant concept around Indian dining, in Chicago. Plans call for it to open late next winter. Saran has a hectic schedule of personal appearances, work as chairman of Asian culinary studies at the Culinary Institute of America, and cookbook writing. When he is not on the road, he and partner Charlie Burd run American Masala Farm, a 19th Century farm set on 68 acres in Washington County.
The annual festival has the Italian Trade Commission and Saratoga Polo as presenting partners. It's a multi-venue event, at Saratoga Polo and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. It will include car exhibitions, cooking seminars and demonstrations, tastings of food, wines and spirits, an auction and other activities.
