Dr. Frank's wines continue basking in golden glow

This truly is a golden year for Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars.

In addition to celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Finger Lakes icon continues piling up major awards in wine competitions everywhere.

The latest is a 92 score/gold medal/best buy designation at the 2012 World Value Wine Challenge for its Dr. Frank 2011 Semi Dry Riesling. That is the same wine that won the Governor's Cup -- the "best of show" -- at the recent New York State Wine & Food Classic.

In addition, the same winery earned other honors at the World Value event -- the Beverage Tasting Institute's comprehensive competition for wines priced at $20 and less:

• 92 score/gold medal/best buy/best U.S Gewurtztraminer for the 2011 Dr. Frank Gewurtztraminer
• 91 score/gold medal/best buy for the 2011 Dr. Frank Dry Riesling
• 91/best buy/best white wine under $10 for the Salmon Run 2010 Chardonnay
• 90/gold/best sparkling wine under $20 for theChateau Frank Celebre Cremant

The Gewurtztraminer also earned a gold medal in the recent Sommelier Challenge competition in San Diego.
