Dickey's Barbecue opening Sunday in Clifton Park

CLIFTON PARK -- Sunday is opening day for the newest Dickey's Barbecue Pit, and the first 100 customers will receive a free pulled pork big barbecue sandwich after the 11 a.m. startup.

Reid Grubbs, a native of Virginia who now lives in Queensbury where he already operates a Dickey's, is the franchise owner.

Despite the fact there are numerous barbecue businesses in the Capital Region, Grubbs says, "New York State is definitely lacking authentic barbecue and I'm extremely excited to be the one bringing more to the state.

"The response to our first Dickey's location in Queensbury has been great. We actually have customers who drive 30 miles to eat our barbecue."

Dickey's Barbecue was founded by Travis Dickey with the goal of authentic slow smoked barbecue. More than 70 years later, the Dallas-based company offers a selection of signature meats, homestyle sides, tangy barbecue sauce and free kids meals every Sunday. All meats are slow smoked on site in each restaurant. You can get a look at the menu online.

The fast-casual family-friendly concept has expanded to more than 270 locations in 43 states. This year, the trade paper Nation's Restaurant News named Dickey's a "Top Five Growth Chain" and another industry publication, QSR Magazine, named it the "Best Franchise Deal."

The new restaurant is located at 22 Clifton Country Road. Phone: 396-5844.
