Psst, Saranac Lake has a First Night, too

SARANAC LAKE -- First Night events in Albany and Saratoga Springs get most of the spotlight in the region, but don't forget the one held in this Adirondacks community.

The opening ceremony for First Night Saranac Lake is set for 5:45 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2013 at Harrietstown Town Hall. Immediately afterward, visitors are invited to visit local venues for family and adult entertainment.

Included at various venues are comedy, storytelling, poetry reading and food tastings along with a large variety of musical performances covering the genres of rock, folk, jazz, blues, pop-folk, country and kids music. All Fist Night events are held indoors, so the weather is immaterial to the action.

The countdown to the new year will take place with a unique  snowflake/ball drop at River and Church streets, and a fireworks display will top off the festivities.

One admission button covers all events, and goes for $12 for anyone over age 12. Those under that age are admitted free,

Buttons are on sale in Saranac Lake at the Adirondack Daily Enterprise newspaper, Ampersound Music, Books & Baskets, Blue Line Sports Shop, the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce, and in Lake Placid at the Lake Placid Visitors Bureau and Price Chopper Supermarket.

The full schedule and other information are available online.
