Smoked salmon recall for Sam's Club stock

A smoked salmon product sold in 42 states -- including New York -- by Sam's Club stores has been recalled.

Multiexport Foods Inc. originally issued a recall on December 22 of its cold smoked salmon, 12-ounce twin pack and 1.25-pound pack under the name “Paramount Reserve” because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

The recall now is being expanded to include additional lot-sublot-batch codes.

WalMart, which owns Sam's Club, says "The specific lot-sublot-batch codes of the cold smoked 12oz pack size (two 6 oz vacuum packages in a cardboard sleeve) and the 1.25 lb Pack under the brand “Paramount Reserve” potentially could be affected. The UPC code for the twin pack product is 6 88264 86705 0 and UPC code for the 1.25 lb pack is 6 88264 86664 0. The lot-sublot-batch codes are affixed on a sticker on the back of the package."

Consumers are advised to return the product to Sam's Club for a refund.

Locally, the Sam's Club is located at  579 Troy Schenectady Road in Latham. Phone: 783-1481.
