Wheatfields owner re-elected by NYSRA

Colleen Holmes
SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Colleen Holmes, co-owner of two Saratoga County restaurants, has been elected to a second year as chairwoman of the New York State Restaurant Association (NYRA).

That's a particularly nice honorific since when she first was elected she was the first female chairperson in the industry organization's 76-year history. Now, any woman who succeeds her in the role will have to serve two terms to match her.

Colleen and husband Tim Holmes own and operate the Wheatfields restaurants in Saratoga Springs and Clifton Park, and also operate Restaurant Consulting Partners.

Holmes, 44, said the primary aspect of her 3,000-member trade association, which represents 10,000 independent and franchised restaurants, deals with new regulations and how they affect members.

The Holmeses bought the original Wheatfields in Saratoga Springs in 2004, then opened Wheatfields Bistro and Wine Bar in Clifton Park in 2009.

Despite earlier reports they planned to open another restaurant in the Elsworth Commons mixed-use project in Malta, the Holmeses recently told the Business Journal they no longer are planning a new restaurant there or anywhere else for the time being. They cited the uncertain economy as a major reason for the decision.
