Bruegger's marking its 30th with newbies, nostalgia

Bruegger’s Bagels didn't make it through 30 years of business by standing still. To mark its 30th anniversary, the bakery chain has added new flavors to its lineup of fresh-baked, New York–style bagels.

The latest flavor, the Five Grain Everything Bagel, will appear in Bruegger's bakeries through May 7.

There are more than a dozen Bruegger's locations in the Capital Region. Go here to locate one.

Meanwhile, the company is using Facebook to encourage customers to vote through February 7 for old-line favorites that Bruegger's may bring back -- such as Trail Mix, Cranberry Orange, Marble Rye and Pretzel, among thers.

“For 30 years, we’ve been the only national chain to offer bagels that are baked fresh all day in each of our locations,” Philip Smith, Bruegger’s executive chef, said in a statemen -- . “We are always focused on the future—innovating and refining our guests’ experience -- but this anniversary gave us a chance to let our loyal guests tell us what they have loved all along.”

Bruegger’s also will add French Toast Coffee, which contains hints of cinnamon, and maple syrup. That's OK, I suppose, if you like sweet French toast. As someone who doesn't care much for sweets, I cannot stand syrup-drenched, cinnamon-infected French toast. Just good bread, fresh egg-and-milk wash, and a thick pat of unsalted butter. Mmmm.
