Palmer House going soul food for a night

RENSSELAERVILLE -- This may be a strong case for fusion event of the year, even though we're barely into 2013.

The Palmer House Cafe has held stammitsch events before -- the word from the German for a communal meal -- but this time around is putting together a soul food version.

The menu for the dinner, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. this Saturday:

• Cheddar bacon biscuits 
• Shrimp and house-cured tasso ham, cheddar grits, collard greens 
• Northwinds Farm fried chicken, buttermilk waffles, Kuhar Farm sausage gravy 
• Fried catfish with hushpuppies and mac-and-cheese 
• Pecan whiskey chocolate tart 

Reservations, which are required, may be made at $35 plus tax and tip by calling 797-3449. The Palmer House is located at 1642 Main Street in this Helderbergs village.
