Ex-White House chef to join Finger Lakes fest

Walter Scheib, who was in charge of the White House kitchen from 1994 to 2005, will be back in the spotlight when he orchestrates a five-course dining experience as a highlight event of The Wine Symposium of the Finger Lakes on March 23.

Scheib will team up with the prominent Canadian sommelier James Treadwell to structure the dinner, to be held at the Scandling Campus Center on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva.

Among other aspects of the symposium will be the team of Thomas Pastszak and Dan berger leading tasting explorations of international cool-climate wines. Pastszak is wine director of The NoMad Hotel in New York City as well as being the Finger Lakes Wine Ambassador. Berger is a noted wine writer based in California.

In addition, the trophy presentation of the first ever Finger Lakes AVA Riesling Challenge will be made during the day.
