NY golden in International Eastern Wine test

New York wines and California gold medals have become inextricably linked in recent years.

The latest New York haul has come in the International Eastern Wine Competition just finished in Sonoma, CA.

Sparkling Pointe Winery of Long Island and 21 Brix Winery of the Lake Erie region, took, respectively, "Best of Show Sparkling Wine" and "Best of Show Dessert Wine" honors.

Sparkling Pointe's winning 2008 Blanc de Noirs took was Double Gold and Best of Class designation on its way to the top.  The winery also showed its consistency of quality with Gold medals for its NV Brut and 2003 Brut, which also got Best of Class.

21 Brix, a fairly new winery, captured "Best of Show Dessert" wine with its 2011 Vidal Ice Wine, along with a Gold for its Ella's Red.

The International Eastern Wine Competition (IEWC) is one of the oldest and largest professional wine competitions in the United States.  Entry is available to wines produced in the Eastern and Midwestern regions of the United States and eastern Canada.
