Apple & Wine Festival taking the weekend spotlight

ALTAMONT -- The Capital Region Apple & Wine Festival, billed as the area's largest such event, is set for this weekend at the Altamont Fair Grounds.

The extravaganza includes sampling from several dozen wineries,  a Sunday car show, live music and entertainment, cooking demonstrations and numerous children's activities.

General admission is $8 at the gate ($7 in advance at Price Chopper markets), children under 15 free. Parking also is free. No pets are allowed.

There is an additional $6 charge for admission to the wine tasting building. Among wineries expected to be represented:
