The structure caught fire early Sunday morning and burned to the ground. Damage to the restaurant, located on Route 8 near the Berkshire Mall, is believed to have been total when firefighters reportedly had difficulty opening the nearby fire hydrants owned and maintained by the mall. There are no hydrants directly on Route 8.
Fire Chief Charlie Durfee said there are two locations in the building that fire investigators are focusing on to determine the cause, according to Berkshires.com. At least initially, arson is not expected.
Durfee said there were no injuries in the blaze, finally extinguished by volunteer firefighters from more than a half-dozen departments.
