Vietnamese restaurant concept gets a one-star review

The controversial sandwich shop.
Yum! Brands Inc., the company that owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell among other brands, backpedaled quickly when a new venture created strong complaints.

The company's Banh Shop concept of Vietnamese-style sandwiches touched off a controversy when it unveiled its design -- its name superimposed on large red star. Such a star is the symbol of the Communist regime in Vietnam.

Yum Brands on Thursday issued an apology for “unintentionally offending” Vietnamese residents in the Dallas area where the first Banh Shop was opened last week. An online petition on the iPetitions site helped coalesce the protests and prompted the company's quick about-face.

“We have heard the issues raised by the Vietnamese community and effective immediately, we are changing the logo,” a Yum spokesperson said Thursday.
