'Empty Bowls' food pantry fundraiser set for Sunday

TROY -- The "Empty Bowls" fundraiser is in the works for its 10th year, scheduled for this Sunday at the Italian Community Center, 1450 5th Avenue.

It is a project of the Collar City Clay Guild that uses one-of-a-kind handmade bowls that are empty to signify the lack of food for some people. The bowls, which visitors will use to sample foods donated by local chefs and businesses then take with them, are made by local artisans.

In the nine previous events, the guild raised more than $156,000 to support food programs in the community. Tickets this year are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The event is scheduled to run from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets are available in Troy at Northeast Ceramic Supply/Monroe Clay Works, 10 Monroe Street; 3rd Street Potters, 3 3rd Street, and The Broken Mold, 284 River Street. They also are available in Albany at the Albany Art Room, 350 New Scotland Avenue, and in Schenectady at Dragonfly Pottery, 1849 VanVranken Boulevard.

Soups, stews, and chowders will be provided by The Ale House, chef Jackie Baldwin, the host Italian Community Center, Patricelli’s Deli, Muza’s, Spillin’ the Beans, Muddaddy Flats, Koni Broadway Kafé, Miele’s Café, B-Rad's Bistro, Carmen’s Café, Carol’s Place and The Eatery, Plum Blossom,  and the Tap Room at Brown’s Brewing.
