Is Hilton Albany getting serious about its food?

The Hilton Albany
Back in April, I posited the question "Will Hilton Albany ever have a first-class restaurant?" The occasion was the announcement that the downtown Albany operation had been sold yet again, coupled with my ongoing dissatisfaction with the quality of restaurants that have come and gone there over the years.

I never did hear from the Hilton folks about any potential plans for upgrading the dining service, but on Thursday the company posted a lengthy advertisement for all sorts of staff, from executive chef and executive sous chef to banquet directors and restaurant managers. Immediate availability and no entry-level positions are specified. That sounds promising.

Under the list of "essential duties" is one that looks as if the new owners are aware that not only guests might dine at the Hilton, but locals as well. It reads, "Maintains an awareness of the competition through periodic inspection and continual review of local promotions." In other words, check out the competition on a regular basis to see how you compare.

Any of you food and beverage professionals who want to take a crack at applying can do so by getting the details online. The Hilton Albany is located at 40 Lodge Street, just down State Street hill from the State Capitol building.
