Colonie's Central Ave. getting more wood-fired pizza

COLONIE -- A section of Central Avenue that has lost two dining spots in the past year is about to get a transfusion. And, it's one with a familiar theme.

A casual Italian restaurant named Napoli Don is aiming for a December debut at 1614 Central Avenue, where the Red Zone Pub & Pizza and the adjacent Thai spot Orange Mango both closed earlier this year. It is in the Howard Johnson hotel complex opposite the Colonie Fire Company building.

The project's Facebook page and website (which needs some copy editing) both are very minimal, but do emphasize wood-fired pizza as a centerpiece of the menu. That will make it the second wood-fired pizza joint to open on that street this year. Earlier, the former Truman's Restaurant & Grill, at 1647 Central Avene, was sold and converted into Mia Luci, emphasizing fare from its wood-fired oven.

Given that a craigslist ad for Napoli Don is "Seeking Executive Chef, Sous Chefs, Line Cooks, Pantry and Dessert Cooks," it may be that the rest of the menu has not yet been finalized.
