Saratoga Springs losing Lillian's at end of the year

The iconic Lillian's Restaurant
SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A city dining landmark will not see 2016. Well, only for a few hours.

Owner Raymond Morris today announced he is closing Lillian's Restaurant after service on New Year's Eve, ending 42 years in business.

Morris said he made the decision because a person he did not identify made an offer to buy his 1950s-era building, and they will close on the deal in January.

“I am often stopped on the street by customers who say that Lillian’s is where they proposed to their wife, dined with their prom date or celebrated all of their special family occasions,” Morris said.

The restaurant, named for the 19th Century opera singer Lillian Russell who summered in Saratoga, opened in January 1974. Morris said Lillian’s will continue to redeem gift certificates and accept reservations for holiday parties.

Lillian's is located at 408 Broadway. Phone: 587-7766.
