41 Days of Drinks (day 16)

• This is the latest entry in a daily feature that will run through New Year's Eve. To provide it, I combed through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

This is a very pretty drink that needs to carry a warning that fits such easy-to-imbibe concoctions: Count your drinks. Even though there is a lot of ice involved in it that will dilute it to some extent, it is potent.

It was created by Colleen Graham, a spirits writer and bartender, and is included in her excellent 2012 book "¡Hola Tequila!" (Sellers Publishing).

1½ fluid ounces blanco tequila
¾ fluid ounces blue curaçao
¾ fluid ounce pineapple juice
Dash of orange bitters

Pour the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well, then strain into a frozen cocktail glass filled with cracked ice. Garnish with a pineapple flag or a single maraschino cherry.
