41 Days of Drinks (day 22)

• This is the latest entry in a daily feature that is running through New Year's Eve. To provide it, I combed through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

Celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian is the drinks guru on the Food Network show "The Kitchen." Each episode, he and his cohorts exclaim, "It's 5 o'clock somewhere," then he launches into a drink creation. Here is one of them that is perfect for the holiday season:

FROZEN BRANDIED EGG NOG
(Makes 4 drinks)

1 quart pre-made egg nog
6 ounces brandy
1 pint vanilla ice cream
Nutmeg
4 cinammon sticks
Sugar/cinnamon mix
Ice

Put egg nog, ice cream, brandy, and ice in a blender. Pulse until completely mixed and slightly frothy. Pour into punch glasses or mugs that have been rimmed with the sugar/cinnamon mix (moisten the rim with a bit of water before rubbing it into the mix to coat), garnish with freshly-grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick, and serve.
