41 Days of Drinks (day 31)

• This is the latest entry in a daily feature that is running through New Year's Eve. To provide it, I combed through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

This refreshing cocktail was created by Joey Scorza of Miami, FL, for the Yellow Tail Mixology Contest, co-sponsored by the wine brand and In The Mix magazine.

JOEY'S COOL TALE

3 ounces Yellow Tail or other Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
1 inch-thick round slice of cucumber
1 ounce Monin Pomegranate Syrup
1 ounce sour mix
1 scoop of ice
Splash of Sprite or 7-Up

Peel the cucumber slice, cut into four wedges, put in shaker and muddle. Then, put in all other ingredients except the Sprite. Shake well, pour into a highball glass, and add a splash of the Sprite. Garnish with a cucumber wheel.
