41 Days of Drinks (day 39)

• This is the latest entry in a daily feature that is running through New Year's Eve. To provide it, I combed through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

We've had any number of red, or reddish, drinks in this series, so let's try a green one to round out the holiday color palette. It's a salute to several parts of the world, and is on the order of an adult slushy.

KIWI KRUSH

2 measures of light rum
2 measures of grapefruit juice
½ measure Midori or other melon liqueur
2 kiwi fruit, peeled
2 scoops crushed ice

Reserve a slice of the kiwi. Mix the remaining ingredients in a blender on slow speed until you get a slushy consistency. Pour into a large glass, finish with the reserved kiwi slice, and serve with a cocktail straw.
