Latest class of 'Rising Star Chefs' announced

ALBANY -- The 2016 class of "Rising Star Chefs," part of the upcoming 7th annual Albany Chefs’ Food & Wine Festival," was announced today.

The group of six is headed by Nicholas Armstrong of The Merry Monk in Saratoga Springs, who scored the highest in the judges' tasting of his entries. He is joined by Lou Agostinello of Athos in Guilderland, Stephanie Gaddy of Soul Kitchen in Albany, Ken McCorry of Angelo’s 677 Prime in Albany, Dan Sala of Rocco’s in Clifton Park, and Anna Weisheit of The Hollow in Albany.

The food and wine festival, subtitled "Wine & Dine for the Arts" to denote its fundraising efforts in support of local arts organizations, will be held Thursday, January 14, through Saturday, January 16, at and near the Hilton Albany hotel. Details on the three-day schedule, along with information on participants, venues, and ticket purchasing are available on the festival website.

Three of the young chefs will be featured in the Rising Star Chef Pavilion at the January 15 evening tasting, and three at the tasting the following afternoon. Chefs were nominated on the Times Union's Table Hopping blog, then chosen from a large group based on online voting, tastings by the festival’s board, and interviews.
