Caffe Lena getting a new neighbor and an angel

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- While the iconic entertainment venue Caffe Lena still is awaiting state approval of its application for a license to sell wine and beer, it has received good news on another front.

The cafe has announced it plans to sell its parking lot at Henry and Phila streets to Bonacio Construction. Not only will that sale help the entertainment venue's renovation campaign, it creates a new relationship between the two entities.

Caffe Lena is scheduled to close this summer to allow extensive renovations, and reopen in October. Bonacio, meanwhile, plans to build a multi-story mixed use building on the lot, located adjacent to the Saratoga Springs Public Library. It would include an elevator that also would serve Caffe Lena and act as a connector between the two structures. When work is completed, seating capacity of the entertainment site will increase from 85 to 110.

Sarah Craig, cafe manager, says Bonacio also is taking responsibility for some components of the renovation, such as the roof, flooring structure, and facade stabilization, and has made a financial donation as well. She valued Bonacio's entire donation at about $500,000.
