New Clifton Park bistro worthy of 'Seinfeld'

CLIFTON PARK -- George Costanza would be proud.

Aficionadoes of the TV comedy classic "Seinfeld" will remember that character declaring "Seven" was the perfect name for a new baby girl. (It was, after all, the immortal Mickey Mantle's uniform number.) Developers of the town's newest restaurant apparently thought the address and name were just as perfect.

Seven - An American Bistro has just opened in the Comfort Suites hotel that is in the process of being renovated to become the Park Manor Hotel. And, the address? 7 Northside Drive.

So, what does this "American bistro" serve, since that description is seeing more and more use these days (dp: An American Bistro, Tala An American Bistro, etc.)? In this instance, the ambitious menu contains some interesting items. Among them: crawfish gumbo, a build-your-own pizza offering 18 toppings, The 7 Chop (bourbon-glazed pork chop with apple chutney, served with red potatoes and asparagus), bone-in short ribs, Meatballs Three Ways (pork with sweet glaze, beef with gravy, chicken with veloute sauce), gnocchi Bolognese, and a layered beet and goat cheese salad.

Hours: noon to 10 p.m. daily, bar open until midnight. Breakfast service will be added when the name changeover takes place. Phone: 371-1777.
