Schenectady loses its iconic 'Mamma Rosa' Ferrari

SCHENECTADY -- Rosa Ferrari, who with her late husband Francesco founded the popular Italian restaurant Ferrari's in 1974, has died at the age of 91.

Widely known as "Mamma Rosa," she was born in Panetta, Fontechiari, Italy in 1924. She came to the United States in 1948 and worked for her father at Panetta's tavern on Front Street. She and Francesco married in Toronto in 1952, and eventually opened Ferrari's at 1254 Congress Street.
