Today's ride on the Capital Region Foodie-Go-Round

OPENING

• Noodles & Co., which I've been keeping an eye on since it announced last July it was coming to the Capital Region, now has added a second local venue to its in-development list. The chain's first New York State location  nortyh of Weestchester County will open next Tuesday, January 19, in the Crossgates Commons shopping center off Washington Avenue Extension in Albany. And, it has made public its plans to develop another, on Route 9 near the Latham Circle. The chain's menu allows customized dishes by selecting a serving bowl size, the type of noodle, the meat or tofu topping, and the choice of soup, salad or veggie sides. It also has a special children's menu.

EDUCATING

• If you'd like to sharpen up your coffee knowledge, Superior Merchandise Company is planning a class and tasting at 6 p.m. Monday, February 1. The 90-minute class, led by the store's coffee director, Matthew Loiacano, will include instruction on the history of coffee, growing conditions, regional taste characteristics, how pros evaluate coffee, and tasting and discussion of three single-origin coffees. Reservations, at $30 per person, may be made online. Participants will receive bags of the tasted coffees. Superior Merchandise is located at 147 Fourth Street, Troy. And, you can find all sorts of cooking classes for adults and kids alike by clicking here.
