DISAPPEARING

• When the Friendly's restaurant chain closed numerous locations as part of a corporate restructuring several years ago, it opened the way for a number of them to be taken over and converted by other restaurateurs. However, a different fate befell some: demolition. The latest of the latter group is the old Friendly's on Altamont Avenue, adjacent to a Wal-Mart and Hannaford Shopping Plaza. The town planning board has approved a request from Sunmark Federal Credit Union to raze the structure to make way for a new branch.

INTRODUCING
