|Inside the original Verdigris in Hudson|
Both events will offer free samples of artisinal chocolates paired with wines from Nunu of Brooklyn (Saturday in Catskill, from 4 p.m.) and from Fairview Wines & Spirits (Sunday in Hudson, from 4 p.m.).
Kim Bach, who has been an artist-in-residence at M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco and at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, opened Verdigris in 2007 when she moved from Brooklyn to Hudson.
Her love of tea was nurtured by her mother, who operated a tea shop in Park City, UT, for more than two decades. "We drank tea at home -- mostly herbal varieties," she says. "Being in the store, I got really interested in how this exotic drink became the most widely consumed beverage on the planet next to water. One plant variety could be several different drinks, spanning different growing regions and different cultures, developing really subtle differences in flavor. It’s fascinating."
Verdigris also features the products of pastry chef Regina Simmons, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who ran her own restaurant in Clermont for several years.
