Big credentials behind new Burlington VT, restaurant

Cara Chigazola-Tobin
"Mediterranean Mezze ... Coming Soon!" That's the extent of the message on the website of the Honey Road Restaurant that plans a late winter-early spring opening in downtown Burlington, VT.

The precise location is being kept under wraps until all the necessary permits are acquired, according to a story in the local 7 Days publication. But, there is information on the aforesaid website about the deep restaurant background of the two key people behind the venture.

The chef/co-owner is Cara Chigazola-Tobin, who had been chef de cuisine at the well-regarded Oleana Restaurant in Cambridge, MA, working for six years under James Beard Award-winning chef Ana Sortun. During that span, Chigazola-Tobin was named a "Rising Star Chef" in 2015 by Star Chefs magazine. The Oleana kitchen has been named one of the top 38 restaurants in the country by Eater National and one of the top 38 restaurants in the world by Conde Nast Traveler.

The general manager is Alison Gibson, a veteran of the Vermont dining scene. She managed the dining room at the historic Inn at Shelburne Farms for four years, then was its events and beverage manager. From 2013 to 2015, she was general manager of the James Beard Award-winning restaurant, Hen of the Wood, in Waterbury, VT, and opening GM for Hen of the Wood in Burlington. She was promoted to operations director for the group, which now includes Doc Ponds in Stowe, last year.
