Saratoga prepping for Saturday's Chowderfest blowout

Schenectady just completed another successful "Soup Stroll" event, but those of you who like to wander about sampling soups need not worry. On Saturday, you can step up the pace by heading to the annual extravaganza that is Saratoga Chowderfest.

In addition to visiting more than 80 food vendors who will be  handing out samples of their chowder creations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will be offered dozens of ancillary events such as an ice bar and ice sculpture, live music, face painting and so on. A schedule is available online.

No tickets are necessary. Visitors simply pay $1 per three-ounce sample for each chowder. That qualifies them to vote on their favorites in seven categories. An awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs Heritage Area Visitor Center.

Details on the whole shebang are available here.
