2 under-the-radar chains coming to Crossgates Mall

While Crossgates Mall still is smarting from the recent closings of the Rascals Steakhouse (see the latest here) and several retail chain stores, it has announced a positive development.

A pair of chains you probably never heard of will open this spring on the lower level of the Guilderland mall near Lord & Taylor, according to a mall announcement. They are Café Wasabi and Kraze Burgers -- yes, yet another burger chain entering this market.

Café Wasabi offers from-scratch dishes, traditional Japanese offerings, Korean-Japanese fusion  items and -- ready for this? -- sushi prepared by a robot. If you can't wait to check out that item, drive over to the Sangertown Square shopping complex in New Hartford, near Utica.

Kraze Burgers, which opened in that same Utica-area complex several months ago, was founded in 2004 in South Korea, offering American-style burgers, and has grown to more than 90 locations there. It has only four U.S. locations at the moment -- the two Upstate spots plus one in Manassas, VA, and one in the Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Kraze Burgers also offers a line of breakfast sandwiches in addition to its meat, veggie and tofu burgers, a variety of buns, and such sides as asparagus spears and tomato and mozzarella salad on its menu.
