Altamont blaze destroys in-progress pizzeria project

A smoking wreck
The Village of Altamont was about to have a new pizzeria, but an intensive fire that destroyed 102 Prospect Terrace early Wednesday destroyed both the project and the building itself.

The building, located near a Sunoco gas station, years ago was home to Papa Tony's pizzeria  and, according to Altamont Fire Chief Paul Miller, was being renovated to again operate as a pizza shop.

A lone, damaged wall is all that is left of the structure that is owned by Thomas and Sarah Ketchum of Altamont. The fire was so intense it took the efforts of seven fire companies -- Altamont, Guilderland, Guilderland Center, Pine Grove, Knox, Voorheesville, and New Salem -- to quell it.
