Juggling restaurants on the Pittsfield dining scene

The former Johnny's Beach Club
The dining scene in Pittsfield, MA, is about to undergo a shakeup.

The troubled Johnny's Beach Club building has been sold and will undergo renovations to become home of a Mexican restaurant among whose owners are Suzanne Chung. She also owns 7 Winter Grill -- which will become Jae's Asian Bistro when her Lenox restaurant of that name moves there -- and Vong's, a recently-opened Thai restaurant on the same block of Wahconah Street as the former Johnny's.

According to public records, John Giardina sold the Johnny's property for $174,000. The bar, which he once operated under the name Pepe's Wings & Dogs, faced numerous sanctions over the years for various incidents, and Giardina has been attempting to sell it.

But, before all the pieces are in place, a host of licensing and building compliance issues need to be satisfied. The Berkshire Eagle has a detailed account of them here.
