Hudson classic game parlor/cafe plans grand opening

For those among you who want to spend money in an avowed sanctuary city while harkening back to a simpler time, you can head to a new dining spot in, not oh-so-trendy Albany (?) ... but rather, in Hudson.

That's where the House Rules Café will hold its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday. The establishment has been buffing its moves by operating in soft opening mode since last week.

House Rules, located at 757 Columbia Street, offers a comfort food menu plus a children’s nook, board games for young adults and others to appeal to all ages (THEY HAVE 'FLINCH'!), according to owner Kathleen Miller. It appears her venture has a good chance of at least an initial success even though its wine and beer license still is pending. A Kickstarter campaign to fund the startup raised more then $10,000 earlier this year.

Says Miller, "Instead of buying every game to come to market, we’re carefully choosing games that we’ve played and enjoyed. It’s the same idea as a gallery, or a boutique; curate the selection so we can best recommend the game to fit your desires and needs. We’re aware of accessibility issues with certain games, and happy to help find workarounds."

Hours: 7 to 9 a.m. Monday-Saturday, 8-t10 a.m. Sunday for takeout only, from 11 a.m. until evening every day for food, drink and games.
