State seizes, closes Schenectady Hot Harry's

Every few months, it seems, the state seizes and closes a local restaurant for nonpayment of taxes. The latest such move came today when the Department of Taxation and Finance, acting on warrants issued earlier this year, shuttered the Hot Harry’s Fresh Burritos location at 1625 Upper Union Street in Schenectady.

The state says the business has two warrants totaling $17,329.10 for a period from October 2015 to December 2016, according to department spokesman James Gazzale.

The most recent similar move involved the seizure of two Merry Monk restaurants in Albany and Saratoga Springs which reopened after eight days following arrangements with the state to begin paying up on a $460,000 back tax bill.

There are six other Hot Harry's locations, including the Schenectady location and one in the Hannaford Shopping Center at 596 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush.
