The long weekend of July 7-9 will find the Olympic Skating Oval taken over by an event that includes live music, cooking demonstrations, chefs' competition, food samplings, and numerous food and beverage concessions. Admission is $5 for anyone 10 and older.
On Friday and Saturday only, the annual "Rib Fest" will feature food cooked by teams of professional barbecue chefs from around the country. There is an additional $3 charge for sampling that event, and attendees will have the opportunity of casting ballots for their favorite teams. The competition is rated in its top 20 by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, and will award nearly $9,000 in cash prizes.
Additional attractions include the Krusher BMX Stunt Team presenting a bike and in-line skating exhibition each day, a mechanical bull, a kids' bounce house and, weather permitting, a waterslide for kids.
The 12th annual festival is organized by the Shipman Youth Center, with assistance from USA Luge.The venue is located at 2634 Main Street in the heart of the village.
