Froyo/waffle shop being developed for Empire State Plaza

Some varieties of Liege waffles
The Empire State Plaza will have another foodie venue later this month.

A business named  á la Mode, described by the state's Office of General Services (OGS) as a combination frozen yogurt/waffle shop, will feature eight different flavors of self-serve frozen yogurts and sorbets, plus various toppings.

OGS, which runs the Plaza, made note of the fact that the shop also will offer made-to-order Liege waffles, in French referred to as gaufre de Liège. Essentially, they are a buttery, vanilla-scented takeoff on brioche that can be topped with something as simple as a sugar glaze or as elaborate as anything you'd use for an ice cream sundae.

á la Mode, run by Mazzone Hospitality, will be located by the Red Cross donation center near the new Egg box office. It will operate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
