Latest Galleria 7 tenant a new business with a familiar name

Open a sandwich shop in the Capital Region and call it Maurice's somewhere in the name and what could go wrong? Plenty of confusion, for starters.

The name "Maurice's" immediately conjures up a longtime but former Schenectady location to some, or a current downtown Albany location to others, or a recently-closed Colonie venue to still other people. It all depends on the areas you frequent, and what timeframe you're using.

The latest will open in Galleria 7 in Latham, according to the food complex's website. It is described as Maurice's - "A NY-Style Deli coming soon." It will open in the space briefly occupied last year by an outpost of Gershon's Deli which itself has operated in Schenectady since 1954 and still does.

Other food operations currently doing business at Galleria 7 include Innovo Kitchen, Anna's Woodfired Pizza, The White Apron, Chops & Hops, I-Dog Macaroni Co., Kobe Hibachi, and Hooked Seafood.

The ebb and flow of various Maurice's is a  bit complicated, but Steve Barnes has ironed it out pretty well on his Table Hopping blog. Click here to go to it.
