Chip Festival returns to Saratoga Springs this Saturday

Chef George Crum
The 2nd annual Chip Festival, which will celebrate all things chippy, is set for this Saturday at the Saratoga City Center.

Since the weather forecast is for 65% humidity that day, it's a good thing the event is an indoor one, thus protecting the crispiness of what promotional materials says will be exhibitors offering samples "of all things chip related, including potato, tortilla, and other varieties of chips, in addition to pretzels, popcorn, salsas, dips, and more.”

The inaugural event drew about 6,000 visitors. This year's event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a $5 admission at the door for anyone over age 12. Oh, why such a big deal locally about chips? The humble potato chip, arguably the most popular snack item on the planet, reputedly was created by chef George Crum at Moon’s Lake House in Saratoga in 1853.

The City Center is located at 522 Broadway. The event is organized by the Saratoga Lions Club.
