UPDATE (6/5/18): The Town of Rotterdam "boil water order" was lifted at 8 a.m. today.

ROTTERDAM -- A water main break on Curry Road this morning has resulted in a "boil water order" for all of Rotterdam, excluding Rotterdam Junction, according to the Schenectady County Health Department.

That covers all water used for drinking and for culinary purposes, so be sure to check with any eateries, taverns, etc., you may be visiting in the next few days. The order is in effect until further notice.

The break occurred just east of the intersection with Altamont Avenue, and Curry Road was closed from Altamont Avenue to Deforest Street for a time as town water crews worked. One lane in each direction was reopened by about 10 a.m.

Many homes and businesses in the vicinity of the water break had no water service, and many places will experience low water pressure for a time.

Residents and business owners are advised to bring water to a boil for one minute, then let it cool before drinking or using in cooking.
