Will Guilderland Restaurant Week ever grow up?

Guilderland Restaurant Week
GUILDERLAND -- We're only a little over a month away from the annual winter Guilderland Restaurant Week (February 24-March 2) and the speculation over its size, or lack thereof, has begun.

This particular business promotion, organized by the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce, usually is one of the smaller of many such events in the Capital Region despite the large number of restaurants in the town that provide potential.

Such weeks -- be they summer or winter -- usually draw only a dozen or fewer participating venues. That despite the fact that the Western Avenue/Western Turnpike corridor, Crossgates Mall, and Stuyvesant Plaza are chock full of eateries spots of all sorts from full service to specialty vendors and fast food spots.

The Chamber has not yet announced its list for the upcoming week. In fact, it still is soliciting participants at registration fees of $100 for Chamber members and $150 for non-members. The Chamber lists only 26 restaurants, food vendors, and caterers among its members. Crossgates alone has 17 eating venues, only seven of which are listed as members on the Chamber website. And, Stuyvesant Plaza has 12 eating spots, only two of which are listed as Chamber members.
