SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Back in September, I reported on a redevelopment project on Saratoga Lake that would include demolition of the 80-year-old Panza's Restaurant. Part of the plan was to recreate the restaurant in one of several new buildings there.

Now comes word that sometime late next month, Panza's actually will close that venue on Route 9P location in Stillwater and move to the former Paradiso Ristorante at 129 South Broadway in the city, a spot that for many years was home to the Tradewinds restaurant as well.

“We signed a lease over there, and we’ll be moving our whole restaurant over there in hopes that the town will give us the approvals that we need to do our renovations,” Tony Panza, who runs the family business with his brother Mike, told The Saratogian.

The original Route 9P project plans did not meet all necessary town requirements and are being revised. Thus, moving the restaurant into the city would provide a revenue stream while the demolition and construction phases are going on.
